Lessons

The YET! Program is designed to be as easy as possible for teachers to incorporate into their classes. The program includes 7 lessons that cover topics introducing students to what a growth mindset is and how to use it in school and beyond.

Each lesson includes a 5-10 minute video followed by a short activity designed to help students apply what they just learned. The videos can be watched as a class or individually, while the activities are designed to be completed by students individually. All materials include Spanish translations for Spanish-speaking students.

LessonSummary
Lesson 1: Introduction to YET!Students are introduced to the YET! Program and the idea of a growth mindset.
Lesson 2: Overcoming ChallengesStudents learn what challenges are, identify their own challenges, and learn about the benefits of trying to overcome challenges, such as growing our brains!
Lesson 3: Fixed Mindset & Stinkin’ Thinkin’The concept of “stinkin’ thinkin’,” or how negative self-talk prevents growth and improvement, is introduced. Students play a game identifying if phrases are “stinkin’ thinkin’” or a “brain gain.”
Lesson 4: Growth Mindset & YET!Now that students know what stinkin’ thinkin’ is, they will learn how to convert their thinking to that of a growth mindset by using the word “YET!” They will engage in an interactive, basic yoga (or should we say, grow-ga!) sequence to better understand this new way of thinking.
Lesson 5: Goals and Action PlansStudents learn how to set a goal. They are also introduced to the idea of creating an action plan and how trying (e.g., practicing specific behaviors in the action plan) helps to overcome challenges and reach goals.
Lesson 6: Problem SolvingStudents learn more about how to overcome setbacks and learn persistence, with Simone Biles as an example.
Lesson 7: Review & ClosingStudents review the previous lessons and reflect on how much they have learned about growth mindset and how they can grow their brains!
